Local Craft Beer in 76 More Grocery Stores Good News for Consumers, Local Breweries and All Ontarians: Ontario Craft Brewers (OCB)

206 Grocery Stores to Sell Local Craft Beer by June 30

OCB welcomes expansion of local craft beer to 76 more grocery stores

(TORONTO) — May 10, 2017 — Ontario Craft Brewers (OCB), the association of small, independent craft brewers in Ontario is applauding today’s announcement by the Ontario government that local craft beer will be available in 206 grocery stores starting on June 30.

This 76 store expansion builds on the current network of 130 stores and will further increase the availability of local craft beer, improve access and choice for consumers, and help local craft brewers create more jobs, further improve productivity, and build even stronger communities.

“Making local craft beer available in 76 more grocery stores is fantastic news and is a great example of the Ontario government’s continued support of the local craft beer industry in Ontario by increasing the choice and access to our outstanding product. Ontario's local craft beer is some of the best in the world, made by people with passion, and a commitment to beer and to their communities,” said Garnet Pratt Siddall, Chair of OCB and president and CEO, Side Launch Brewing Company. “Craft beer lovers are enjoying the choice and access offered through grocery and today’s announcement will further improve choice and access for the consumer while helping our locally-owned breweries create jobs, and support their communities.”

Pratt Siddall noted that OCB membership has grown to over 80 breweries across the province over the past 14 years. Today, craft breweries directly employ over 1,500 Ontarians with good, local jobs in breweries in over 110 communities — along with thousands of additional indirect jobs in manufacturing, packaging, construction and the agricultural sector — thanks in part to the commitment the Ontario government has made to our industry.

“We have seen the success of local craft beer in grocery stores firsthand and we commend the government for continuing to expand this program as a key part of the continued growth of OCB and the craft beer industry in Ontario,” concluded Pratt Siddall. “We are well on our way to making Ontario into a centre of excellence for craft brewing in North America and making our beer available in 76 more locations helps ensure the craft beer industry in Ontario can continue to grow and succeed.”
