Visit Neustadt this fall for a taste of Big Dog Porter 6 Comments »

Hey Guy's and Gals

The leaves are a changing and I think this is the best time of the year! Grey and Bruce counties really shine with fall colours. The weather has been great. So come and day trip around Neustadt, we have some great artisans ( for your special Xmas one of a kind gift) Also Andrew is begining to think about his winter beer …Big Dog Porter. Hopefully it will be ready by the end of October. This year we are proud to be working with Pele Island Winery and will be using thier wine in our Big Dog Porter. So all you fans of this winter beer let us know what you think about this change in the winery we have chosen to put in the Porter.

Toronto Festival of Beer is here No Comments »

The 12th Toronto Festival of Beer, presented by our friends at The Beer Store, starts this week, so get your tickets while you still can.  In the meantime, here's a story from Aonghus Kealy at Metro News about the festival that represents the Ontario Craft Brewers very nicely.
still can.

Aonghus's story features his 12 things not to be missed at the fest…we draw your attention to #12:

12. Ontario Craft Beers … yum!: Eat and drink locally. And there are a number of reasons to try some OCB beers:
  • Beer ice cream, by Great Lakes Brewing (Booth 55), served out of a bicycle fridge.
  • Neustadt Springs’ re-introducing Scottish Pale Ale in Booth 47. “It’s only 4.5 per cent and it’s ideal because it has afor the summer,” said Neustadt’s Val Simpson. nice bite to it
  • Brick’s Waterloo Wheat finally ventures into Toronto. Booth 56.

If this doesn't make you thirsty, see a doctor.

Hey Guy's…………….and Gal's

Has anyone seen the OCB poster from last year, on the ultimate reward for  putting a barbi together ……………well

I feel I need a masters degree and a medal. Yes , thats what the folks at Neustadt was doing over the long weekend (in between serving our loyal customers and tourists). Trying to put our new gas barbi together. It took three guy's and me, three day's to fathom out if we had enough bits and pieces. ……….But, we did it!

I am now the Queen of the Q.

I love the LCBO 18 Comments »

I love the LCBO…………….They make life so hard for the small brewers. Here we are, so chuffed we have our canning machine and ready to rock and roll, change the 6 packs for single serve cans, simple not rocket science………………..no!

We have to resubmit as if they are a new brand which will take between 6 to 8 weeks to get through the red tape. So all you Neustadt fans can look forward to cans by the end of August.

It is a good job that small brewers are tenacious and fight the good fight to get thier product to the beer lovers of Ontario. If you only knew, that most small brewers have to have a degree in LCBO paper work etc. (Leanne, I love you dearly)

For all the nay sayers, who call Ontario craft brews as bland and not living up to thier American counter parts, I say, what do you know! Have you ever visited and seen how hard it is to run a small brewery in Ontario. I set out a challenge to all you beer writers and so call beer experts, come up and see us some time!  We will set you straight and give you a good story so that you can sit in your air conditioned office and maybe write something nice about Ontario craft beers!

Ottawa Calling 1 Comment »

Anybody out there in Ottawa got a spare case of 10w30?

We have not yet got enough 10w30 to supply the LCBO's stores in Ottawa(Toronto sucks us dry), but we are working on putting more tanks in. So, Ottawa fans please have patience!

I had a phone call the other day from an Ottawa radio talk show host asking me where he could get hold of a case of 10w30 to settle a bet he had had with a listener. He had gone on and on about the price of oil going up and up on his show and told his listeners that by the end of June it would be up by $30 a barrel so one of his listeners had phoned in and bet him the price of gas would go down and he would have to pay for the bet with a case of Neustadt 10w30. This Talk show host was frantic when he found out he couldn't buy it any where in Ottawa and his nearest place was Peterborough LCBO. When I asked who he had made the bet with he admitted it was Peter who owns the Black Tomato restaraunt ……………… The same Peter who knows we do not supply Ottawa because he has a cottage in Meaford (almost near us) and picks his kegs of our 10w30 that he serves at the Black Tomato up whenever he stay's at his cottage.

So if any one out there has a spare case of 10w30 please forward it to this poor frantic radio host.

Neustadt’s Canning Machine 7 Comments »

Hi beer guy's and gal's……..Val here…… wondering where in the world is my new canning machine?

Yes, we are finally retiring our bottling machine, Cry,after it's long 10 year service with us, pumping out your favourite Neustadt suds.  The word on the street (LCBO) was .473ml single serve cans are the hottest thing around, so we had a meeting of the committee ……….me (the beer babe), Andrew (the Brewmaster)and the beer bitch (Vicki, our production manager) I think the mascot "Dolly" was there as well and made a corporate decision…………..Neustadt was going canning!Smile

We ordered our canning machine last November, from Frusso in Argentina and because it is a prototype,we had to wait for it to be built and tested, somewhere in the depths of Argentina. We then found out the wooden crate it was being shipped in was not allowed into Canada, unless it underwent a special process to kill any bugs that might have hibernated in it. Glurps

Anyway, finally it was shipped from the mountains to the coast of Argentina (apparently it takes a week) and set sail for Canada on the 4th April 2007. Since then we had not heard any news, until last week when it should have arrived on the 16 May and to our dismay found it had been impounded by New York customs for 10 days. They finally released it on the 18 May into Canadian Customs………….. but it was the Canadian May 24 weekend…… so we have lost track of it again! If anybody out there finds a Frusso canning machine please tell it to phone home!Wink
