Brick, OCB and Q107 bring the BBQ No Comments »

Laureen Walsh of Scarborough, Ont. was the winner of a recent Ontario Craft Brewers/Brick Brewing backyard BBQ contest featured on Q107.com.  Members of the radio station's Club Q were eligible to enter to win a backyard BBQ for 19 friends featuring a concert by Michael White's Animal House Band.

Toronto Festival of Beer is here No Comments »

The 12th Toronto Festival of Beer, presented by our friends at The Beer Store, starts this week, so get your tickets while you still can.  In the meantime, here's a story from Aonghus Kealy at Metro News about the festival that represents the Ontario Craft Brewers very nicely.

Aonghus's story features his 12 things not to be missed at the fest…we draw your attention to #12:

12. Ontario Craft Beers … yum!: Eat and drink locally. And there are a number of reasons to try some OCB beers:
  • Beer ice cream, by Great Lakes Brewing (Booth 55), served out of a bicycle fridge.
  • Neustadt Springs’ re-introducing Scottish Pale Ale in Booth 47. “It’s only 4.5 per cent and it’s ideal because it has afor the summer,” said Neustadt’s Val Simpson. nice bite to it
  • Brick’s Waterloo Wheat finally ventures into Toronto. Booth 56.

Ontario Craft Brewers in the news - w/o May 14 No Comments »

With the May long-weekend in Ontario, everybody starts talking about beer.  Ontario Craft Brewers have been making their fair share of news this week:

Black Oak on BNN:  Black Oak's Ken Woods talked about the business of beer on the Business News Network (BNN) on Friday, May 18.  Click here to watch on the BNN site.  (Ken is on at  5 p.m., close to two-thirds of the way through the show with beer writer, Stephen Beaumont.)

Brick in Metro:  Brick Brewery launched its new promotion for Red Cap stubbies featuring Bob & Doug McKenzie.  Doug's alter-ego, Dave Thomas, was interviewed in Metro by "Suds" columnist Aonghus KealyClick here to see the article, eh. 

Great Lakes in Toronto Star:  Great Lakes' new Orange Peel Ale was featured in Josh Rubin's column in the Toronto Star.  

Niagara's Best in St. Catharine's Standard:  Lou Stranges of Niagara's Best explained how big the long-weekend is for the beer business. Click here for the article.
