Dogfish Head/Beer Bistro Dinner May 29th, 2008
The much anticipated Dogfish Head dinner at Beer Bistro finally became a reality last night, and I was lucky enough to snag a ticket in time.
The venue was great, being small enough to hold about 60 or 70 beer lovers and allowing us all the chance to meet Sam Calagione, the owner/brewer/founder of Dogfish Head.
He’s the definition of craft beer: passionate about great beer, really down to earth and supportive. He was happy to answer all my questions as we sampled some of his incredible beers, including Raison d’Extra, DFH 120 Minute IPA and the ridiculous Worldwide Stout. Sam also tried our Devil’s Pale Ale and was quite complementary, finding it very well balanced.
The food was top notch, 9 courses each paired perfectly with a DFH beer. And then the Stout to close out the night. Perfect.
Something tells me that when DFH 60 Minute IPA finally lands at the LCBO, it’s not going to have any trouble selling…

An incredible night indeed. Sam was inspirational, funny and honest and a pleasure to hear speak.
Chef Brian Morin’s food was incredible and he provided excellent pairings for Sam’s incredible beers.
A job well done to Dogfish Head and the staff at Beer Bistro for a night that will be remembered for a long time!

Very classy guy and 100% craft brewery friendly. Did you see his commerical in the bathroom? Hilarious.
He did have good things to say about the 666 and he really wanted to try the Orange. Hopefully he grabbed some before heading to Mondial. He also spoke highly of other Ontario and Canadian craft breweries and was very glad to hear more OCB members are experimenting with their products.

I too was lucky enough to get tickets. The distinctness of each of the beers, and pairing them with such incredible food was much more than I had expected.
I fly between Toronto and Puerto Rico every two weeks, and I am seriously thinking of flying into Buffalo, every once in a while, just to buy DFH there.

An absolutely wonderful night with great beer and terrific pairings to go with them. Sam Calagione is an honest, inspiring and very speaker and really made the night special for all who attended.
Chef/Owner Brian Morin and his staff should be commended on their exceptional cooking ans service.
One can only hope that the Beer Bistro makes this an annual event like Sam suggested.
